Khaleeji Jazz - Boom.Diwan at Etihad Museum Garden
Etihad Museum’s historic garden hosted its first open-air musical performance, marking a new threshold in how the institution activates its outdoor spaces. The performance brought together Boom.Diwan, the Abu Dhabi Folklore & Theatre Society under the direction of Mubarak Al Otaiba, and Emirati sound artist Safeya Alblooshi, for a collaborative exploration of Khaleeji jazz and maritime heritage.
About the Artists
Led by ethnomusicologist and guitarist Dr. Ghazi Al Mulaifi, Boom.Diwan is a pioneering Khaleeji jazz ensemble that bridges Gulf traditions with contemporary improvisation. The Kuwaiti percussionists blend Gulf traditions with live improvisation, bringing a contemporary edge to regional music through their approach to Khaleeji jazz.
Abu Dhabi Folklore & Theatre Society
Founded in 1987, the Abu Dhabi Folklore & Theatre Society, led by Mubarak Al Otaiba is celebrated for its powerful interpretations of the UAE’s maritime traditions.
Safeya is an Emirati sound artist who experiments with found sound via participatory performance and installation to engage with topics of conceptual narrative, environmental listening and interactivity in performance.
